„Tomboy No More“ ist ein älterer Lack von Essie aus der Herbstkollektion von 2008 (deren Namen ich leider nicht kenne). Der Lack wurde aber ins normale Sortiment übernommen und sollte somit noch überall erhältlich sein. „Tomboy No More“ ist ein dunkelroter Jelly, der mit drei Schichten vollständig deckend ist. Es würden sicher auch zwei Schichten gehen; allerdings sieht man dann das Nagelweiss leicht hindurchschimmern. Bei ganz kurzen Nägeln sollte das aber kein Problem sein.

Die sexy vampy Farbe gefällt mir richtig gut und ich mag das Jelly-Finish. Dadurch sieht der Lack so nass glänzend und leicht durchscheinend aus, als hätte ich meine Finger in frisches Blut getaucht.:D Leider ist die Trocknungszeit ohne Topcoat extrem lang. Dafür lässt sich der Lack aber prima streifenfrei auftragen. Die Haltbarkeit (auf einem Essie Basecoat) ist in Ordnung. Wenn man ihm genug Zeit zum vollständigen Trocknen lässt, dann hält er trotz der dunklen Farbe ein paar Tage ohne Tipwear problemlos durch.

"Tomboy No More" is an older polish by Essie from the fall collection of 2008 (whose name I unfortunately don't know). But the polish was added to the normal range and should therefore be available everywhere. "Tomboy No More" is a dark red jelly. It's completely opaque with three coats. Two coats would certainly be enough, but then you have a slightly visible nail line. With shorter nails that should be no problem.
I really like the sexy vampy color and love the jelly finish. It looks so shiny and wet, as if I had dipped my fingers in fresh blood. :D Unfortunately, the drying time without topcoat is very long. The polish glides on easily without streaking. The durability (on an Essie basecoat) is okay. In spite of the dark color it stands a few days without tipwear.

„Blue Sparrow“ ist ein älterer Lack von China Glaze. Er stammt aus der Sommerkollektion „INK“ von 2008. Es ist ein blauer Neonlack mit mattem Finish und silbernem Glitter, welcher aufgrund der neonblauen durchscheinenden Base hellblau aussieht. Die leuchtende Farbe gefällt mir richtig gut. Es ist ein tolles mittleres Blau mit leicht türkisem Einschlag. Ansonsten gibt es über „Blue Sparrow“ eigentlich nicht so wahnsinnig viel Positives zu berichten. Das matte Finish würde mir im Prinzip sehr gut gefallen, wenn die Oberfläche durch den Glitter nicht so rauh wäre. Zu allem Überfluss scheint dieser Lack Topcoat regelrecht aufzusaugen, so dass man mindestens 2 dicke Schichten eines sehr dickflüssigen Topcoats brauchen würde, um den Lack halbwegs glatt zu bekommen. Da mir der Lack aber ohne Glanz besser gefällt, weil er so wenigstens diesen ungewöhnlichen Plastiklook hat, den ich ziemlich cool finde, habe ich ihn so gelassen. Mit Topcoat käme auch der Glitter mehr zur Geltung, was nicht so ganz mein Fall ist, wenn er in Unmengen vorhanden ist.

Tja, schade eigentlich. China Glaze hat wirklich eine riesige Auswahl an schönen und ungewöhnlichen Farben im Sortiment, aber die Qualität der Lacke enttäuscht leider öfter mal…

"Blue Sparrow" is an older polish by China Glaze. It’s from the summer collection "INK" in 2008. "Blue Sparrow" is a neon with matte finish and silver glitter, which appears light blue through the neon blue translucent base. I really like the bright color. It is a great medium blue with a light turquoise twist. Otherwise there is not much positive to say about "Blue Sparrow". The matte finish would please me very well, if the surface was not so gritty due to the glitter. The polish seems to absorb topcoat. So you need at least two thick layers of a very thick topcoat to get the surface fairly smooth. I left it without topcoat, because I like the polish better without a glossy finish. It has that unusual plastic look, which I find pretty cool. A topcoat would also intensify the sparkle and that is not always right up my alley, if it's present in vast quantities.
China Glaze has a really huge range of beautiful and unusual colors, but unfortunately the quality of the polishes is disappointing sometimes...

Make Up Store – Greta

„Greta“ von Make Up Store ist ein silberner Lack mit gleissendem Holoeffekt, der einen ganzen Regenbogen an Farben mit sich bringt. Einige allgemeine Info’s zur Marke habe ich hier in diesem Post bereits erwähnt: klick!

Auf den Bildern seht ihr 2 Schichten ohne Topcoat in unterschiedlichen Lichtverhältnissen. Mit der Aqua Base ließ „Greta“ sich prima streifenfrei auftragen und mit 2 Schichten ist der Lack vollständig deckend. Auf den Topcoat habe ich verzichtet, da dieser den Holoeffekt ein bisschen dämpft. Aber die Make Up Store Holos sind so extrem holo, dass sie einen Topcoat durchaus vertragen, ohne zu viel vom Effekt einzubüßen; und die Haltbarkeit auf den Nägeln erhöht sich enorm, wenn man einen draufpinselt. Ohne Topcoat neigt der Lack leider dazu nach ein bis zwei Tagen bereits abzusplittern, wie das die meisten Holos eben so tun.

Je nach Lichteinfall changiert „Greta“ in den unterschiedlichsten Farben und selbst bei ganz schwacher Beleuchtung (Kerzenlicht) zaubert der Lack das typische Holo-V auf die Nägel. In der Sonne oder bei sehr starkem Kunstlicht benötigt man beinahe eine Sonnenbrille, um nicht geblendet zu werden. :)

"Greta" by Make Up Store is a silver polish with glistening holo effect, which brings a whole rainbow of colors on your nails. I've already mentioned some general info about the brand in this post: click!
In the pictures you see two coats without topcoat in different lighting conditions. With Aqua Base underneath "Greta" was applied perfectly without streaks and two coats are completely opaque. I did the mani without topcoat since this dampens the holo effect a bit. But the Make Up Store holos are so extreme, that they tolerate topcoat without sacrificing to much of the effect and the durability extends when you use one. Without a topcoat the polish unfortunately tends to split off after one or two days, as most holos do.
Depending on the light, “Greta” shimmers in various colors and even in very dim light (candle light) the typical holo-V is visible on the nails. In the sun or strong artificial light you need sunglasses to avoid being blinded. :)

Diese wunderhübschen Holo-Schätze darf ich dank einer ganz lieben Userin bei den Beautyjunkies mein Eigen nennen. (Falls Du dies lesen solltest, vielen Dank nochmal an Dich! Das sind die schönsten Holos in meiner Sammlung.)

Make Up Store ist eine schwedische Marke, die man meines Wissens bislang nicht online kaufen kann, sondern nur in den Ladengeschäften, welche auf dem ganzen Globus verteilt sind. Auf der Homepage gibt es einen Store Locator, mit dem man die Adressen herausfinden kann: klick! Ich hatte also das Glück eine Personal Shopperin in Anspruch nehmen zu können, die in Berlin für mich fündig geworden ist.

Auf dem Bild seht ihr ganz links die Aqua Base, welche man unbedingt benötigt, da sich die Lacke sonst nicht vernünftig auftragen lassen. Die Holopartikel haften auf normalen Basecoats oder dem Naturnagel nicht richtig und lassen sich mit dem Pinsel hin- und herschieben, so dass Löcher bzw. unschöne Beulen entstehen, wenn man mehrfach mit dem Pinsel über dieselbe Stelle streicht. Es geht aber vermutlich auch mit einer anderen Aqua-Base als der von Make Up Store. Ich denke, die von Nfu Oh oder Gosh dürfte den Job auch erledigen (wobei ich sagen muss, dass Aqua Fix von Make Up Store den Lack wirklich gut festhält und auch angenehm riecht).

Auch die Holo-Lacke selber sind superklasse und sehr zu empfehlen. Sie sind extrem holo-ig (was man den Fläschchen jetzt nicht unbedingt ansieht). Die Pinsel sind schmal, fächern aber breit auf, so wie ich das am liebsten mag. Und auch die kleinen Flakons sind sehr hübsch und hochwertig. Ich bin ja so ein richtiges Flaschenkind. ;-) Will sagen, dass mir nicht nur der Inhalt, sondern auch die Optik und Haptik der Fläschchen sehr wichtig ist und in diesem Fall bin ich rundherum zufrieden. Schwarze Deckel sind immer gut; und besonders, wenn selbige mit schwarz glänzender Schrift auf matt-schwarzem Grund aufwarten können. Auch die schlichte schnörkellose Form entspricht genau meinem Geschmack. Die Flakons waren übrigens noch in kleinen schwarzen Schächtelchen verpackt, ganz ähnlich wie die MAC-Sachen, aber leider konnte ich kein Bild mehr davon machen, denn ich habe diese gedankenlos in den Müll geworfen. Zum damaligen Zeitpunkt wusste ich noch nicht, dass ich unter die Blogger gehen würde.;-)

Make Up Store is a Swedish brand that can not be bought online, as far as I know, but only in their stores, spread across the globe. On the homepage there is a store locator, which allows you to find out the addresses: click! So I had the good fortune to have a personal shopper in Berlin who found them for me.
In the picture you see on the left the Aqua Base, which is absolutely needed, because the polish can not be applied accurately without it. The holo particles don’t adhere to a normal base coat or to the natural nail and every brush stroke will cause dragging if you don’t use a Aqua Base. I think that Nfu Oh’s or Gosh’s Aqua Base would do the job too (although I must say that the Make Up Store Aqua Fix works really well and smells nice).
The holo polishes themselves are great and very recommendable. They are extremely holo (what you can not really see in the bottle pic). The brushes are narrow, but diversify broadly as I prefer. And also the little bottles are very pretty and high quality. I'm a bottle-fed baby. Haha! ;-D What I want to say is, that not only the content but also the look and haptics of a bottle are important to me and in this case I am completely satisfied. Black caps are always good, and especially when they come up with shiny black lettering on matte black background. The simple form of the bottle without frills suits my taste too. The bottles were also packaged in small black boxes, much like the MAC stuff, but unfortunately I could not make a pic. I’ve thrown them thoughtlessly into the garbage, because at this point I did not know, that I would have a blog.. ;-)

Zoya – Neeka (Smoke & Mirrors Collection)

„Neeka“ stammt aus der aktuellen Herbstkollektion „Smoke & Mirrors“ von Zoya. „Neeka“  ist ein wunderhübsches rauchiges blaustichiges Lila mit goldenem Mikroglitter und vereinzelten pinkfarbenen Schimmerpartikeln. Die Textur des Lackes ist hervorragend. Er lässt sich super auftragen, ist bereits mit einer Schicht deckend und trocknet sehr flott.

Der Glitter ähnelt von der Art her dem Glitter in „Victoriana“ von Butter London. Bloß dass „Neeka’s“ Glitter golden und spärlicher vorhanden ist. Und genau wie beim „Victoriana“ wird der Glitter durch Topcoat geschluckt (getestet habe ich diesmal auf dem Wheel mit einem anderen Topcoat, so dass man ausschließen kann, dass es an diesem gelegen haben könnte). Da der Glitter in „Neeka“ etwas sparsamer eingesetzt wurde, bleibt kaum etwas übrig, wenn man den Topcoat draufpinselt und man erhält so beinah einen hübschen Cremelack. Mir gefällt der Lack aber ohne Topcoat wesentlich besser, weshalb ich ihn für die Mani weggelassen habe.

"Neeka" is part of the current fall collection "Smoke & Mirrors" by Zoya. "Neeka" is a gorgeous smoky blueish purple with golden micro glitter and sporadic pink shimmer particles. The formula of the polish is excellent. It's super easy to apply, opaque with only one coat and dries very fast.

It is a similar sort of glitter as in "Victoriana" by Butter London (except that "Neeka's" glitter is gold and inserted more sparsely). And as the "Victoriana" glitter it will be absorbed, when you add a topcoat (I tested this time on a wheel with another topcoat by Zoya). There is hardly anything left, when you add the topcoat and so you get almost a beautiful cream finish. But I like the polish much better without topcoat, so I left it for the mani you see in the pictures...

„Gamma“ war Teil der diesjährigen Frühlingskollektion „Toxic Nature“ von llamasqua mit den wohl wunderschönsten Promopics, die eine Kosmetikmarke jemals zustande gebracht hat. (Hier könnt ihr euch durch die Bilder klicken, falls ihr sie noch nicht kennt: Illamasqua – Toxic Nature)

„Gamma“ ist ein grelles Neonorange mit einem klitzekleinen koralligen Einschlag. Der Lack ist mit zwei Schichten deckend, was für einen Neonlack ziemlich gut ist und trocknet wie alle Neons zu einem halbmatten Finish, welches den Nägeln so ein gummiartiges Aussehen verleiht. Mir hat das Finish sehr gut gefallen, aber da ich noch ein Waterdecal draufgemacht habe, musste ich mit Topcoat versiegeln.

Ich bin ganz verliebt in diesen Lack. Die Farbe ist sowas von grell, dass im Umkreis von einigen Zentimetern die gesamte Umgebung wie ein schwarzweiss Film aussieht, aus dem nur die Nägel farbig herausleuchten. :-)

Die Farbe des Lackes und der Name der Kollektion haben mich zu einer Biohazard-Mani inspiriert. Biohazard ist eine Hardcore-Band, die ich ziemlich cool finde und schon einige Male live gesehen habe. Hier mal eine kleine Kostprobe.

"Gamma" was part of this year's spring collection "Toxic Nature" from llamasqua with the most beautiful promo pics a beauty brand has ever launched. (Here you can click through the pictures, if you do not know them already: Illamasqua - Toxic Nature)

"Gamma" is a bright neon orange with a tiny coral twist. The polish is opaque with 2 layers, which is pretty good for a neon polish and dries as all neons to a semi-matte finish, that gives a rubber-like appearance to the nails. I liked the finish very well, but since I put on a waterdecal, I had to seal it with topcoat.

I am completely in love with this polish. The color is so bright that within a few centimeters, the entire environment looks like a black and white film and only the colored nails are shining out of it. :-)

The color of the polish and the name of the collection inspired me to make a biohazard mani. Biohazard is a hardcore band, which I’ve seen live in concert some times ago and find pretty cool. Here's a audio sample.

Die Waterdecals, die ich für die Mani verwendet habe, sind Marke Eigenbau und bei Ebay aus den USA zu bekommen. Die Qualität ist nicht gerade toll, da sie mit einem ganz normalen Drucker gemacht wurden. Sie sind daher nicht besonders scharf gezeichnet und verziehen sich relativ schnell, wenn man beim Andrücken nicht aufpasst. Die Motive solcher hausgemachten Decals sind auf einer klaren Folie aufgedruckt, d.h. man kann sie nur eingeschränkt verwenden. Bunte Motive funktionieren nur auf weißem oder ganz hellem Lack, da die Lackfarbe durch die Folie hindurchscheint. Schwarze Motive lassen sich aber wie man sieht problemlos auch auf farbigen Nägeln aufbringen.

The waterdecals I've used for the mani are homemade. You can get these on Ebay from USA. The quality is not so good because they were made with an ordinary printer. Therefore they are not drawn very sharp and they pull out of shape quickly, if you don’t press them on the nails carefully. The motives of such homemade decals are printed on a clear paper, which means that they can only be used restrictedly. Colorful images only work on white or very light colored polish, because the polish shows through the paper. But, as you can see, black motives can be placed on colored nails with no problems.

Butter London – Victoriana (Fall 2010 Collection)

 „Victoriana“ von Butter London ist bereits im Herbst des vergangenen Jahres erschienen. Der Lack wurde aber ins reguläre Sortiment übernommen, so dass man ihn noch überall bekommen kann.

Es handelt sich hierbei um einen angegrauten petrolfarbenen Lack mit einer riesigen Menge silbernem Microglitter. Die Farbe deckt bereits mit einer etwas dickeren Schicht. (Ich habe aber trotzdem wie immer zwei dünne Schichten gepinselt.)

Die Textur ist hervorragend und trägt sich fast wie von selbst auf. Die Pinsel von Butter London sind recht klein und schmal, was ich persönlich bevorzuge. Der Lack lässt sich damit ganz präzise auftragen und einfach kontrollieren. Die eckige Kappe ist übrigens abziehbar, so dass man nicht mit dem klobigen Teil herumhantieren muss. Darunter befindet sich ein schmaler runder geriffelter Griff, der wesentlich besser in der Hand liegt. Die Trocknungszeit des Lackes ist auch in Ordnung (erst Recht, wenn man sich mit nur einer Schicht zufrieden geben würde...)

Eine Überraschung hat mir dieses Schätzchen aber trotzdem beschert: Als ich den Topcoat aufgetragen habe, um das Glitzern zu intensivieren, ist genau der gegenteilige Effekt eingetreten. Das Funkeln wurde zu einem Großteil vom Topcoat geschluckt. Sehr seltsam, denn normalerweise kommt Glitter mit Topcoat wesentlich besser zur Geltung... :-s 

Naja, diesen Effekt hatte ich zwar nicht erwartet, aber letztlich war ich mit dem Ergebnis trotzdem zufrieden, weshalb ich es so gelassen habe.

"Victoriana" by Butter London has been released last year in autumn, but the polish is still available in the regular range, so you can still get it anywhere.
"Victoriana" is a greyed out teal with a huge amount of silver micro glitter. The color is already opaque with one thick coat. (But I did two thin coats as I always do.)
The formula is excellent and applied almost by itself. Butter London’s brushes are pretty small and narrow, which I prefer. The polish can be applied very precise and is easy to control. The square cap can be pulled off by the way, so you have not to tamper with the clumsy cap. A small round ribbed handle is provided under the cap, which is much better manageable. The drying time of the lacquer is fine too (especially if you were satisfied with just one layer ...)

But anyway this baby has brought me a big surprise: When I applied the topcoat to enhance the sparkle, exactly the opposite effect occurred. The greatest part of the sparkle was absorbed by the topcoat. Very strange... :-s  

Well, that was not what I had expected, but finally I was nevertheless satisfied with the result, so I left it that way.

„Congeniality Is My Middle Name“ ist Teil der Miss Universe Kollektion von OPI, die diesen Juni anlässlich des Miss USA Schönheitswettbewerbes herausgebracht wurde. Bei diesem Wettbewerb hat Suzi Weiss-Fischmann (Executive Vice President & Artistic Director der Firma OPI) als Jurorin fungiert und die Veranstaltung geschäftstüchtigerweise dazu genutzt, ein paar weitere Lacke unter das Volk zu bringen. Die Gewinnerin des Wettbewerbs darf dann im September an der Miss Universe Wahl teilnehmen...

Das alles wäre eigentlich ein Grund für mich einen gaaaanz großen Bogen um diese Kollektion zu machen, denn auf schwachsinnige Schönheitswettbewerbe mit vermutlich ebensolchen Teilnehmerinnen konnte ich bislang sehr gut verzichten. ;-) Aber als ich die ersten Swatches gesehen habe, hat der Lackjunkie in mir kurzerhand beschlossen, das Drumherum geflissentlich zu ignorieren… :-D

"Congeniality Is My Middle Name" is part of the Miss Universe collection, that has been launched this June at the Miss USA beauty contest. Suzi Weiss-Fischmann (OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director) was a member of the jury at this competition and enterprising enough to deliver some more polish to the people on that occasion. The winner of the contest is able to participate in the Miss Universe competition in September...

All this would actually be a reason for me to forgo this collection, because so far I could do very well without stupid beauty contests with probably just such participants. ;-) But when I saw the first swatches, the polish junkie in me has simply decided to ignore all that jazz studiously ...:-D

CIMMN ist ein wunderschöner weinroter Jellylack mit tonnenweise mikrofeinem lilafarbenem Glassfleck-Schimmer. Auf den Bildern seht ihr 3 Schichten mit Topcoat in jeweils unterschiedlichen Lichtverhältnissen. (Vermutlich hätten auch 2 Schichten gereicht, aber ich habe mir eingebildet, dass das Nagelweiss nach 2 Schichten immer noch hindurchscheint.) Der Topcoat war nicht nur nötig, um den Schimmer richtig zur Geltung zu bringen, sondern auch um die Bläschen glattzuziehen, welche sich gebildet hatten. Und ich glaube diesmal nicht, dass es am Basecoat gelegen hat, denn ich habe Essie’s „Fill The Gap“ benutzt, welcher sich normalerweise mit all meinen OPI-Lacken bestens verträgt.

Ich bin mit CIMMN aber trotz der Zickereien ganz zufrieden, denn die intensive tiefe Farbe und der Schimmer gefallen mir richtig gut. Der Lack scheint von innen heraus zu glühen, während er an den Rändern dunkel wirkt. Das Finish verleiht den Nägeln einen samtigen glamourösen Gesamteindruck und dürfte allen kühlen Farbtypen schmeicheln. Die Haltbarkeit ist wie bei den meisten OPI’s hervorragend.

CIMMN is a beautiful wine red jelly base with tons of micro-fine purple glassfleck shimmer. In the pictures you see three coats with topcoat in different lighting conditions. (Probably two coats would have been enough, but I have imagined that there was some visible nail line.) The topcoat was not only necessary to bring out the bling, it had also to smooth out some bubbling. And this time I don’t think that the basecoat has caused the problem. I used Essie's "Fill The Gap", which is usually compatible with all my OPI lacquers.

Despite the bubbling I'm very pleased with CIMMN. I like the intense deep color and the shimmer. The polish seems to glow from within, while it looks dark at the edges. The finish gives a velvety glamorous overall impression to the nails and is certainly very flattering on all cool toned skintypes. The durability is excellent too like with most OPI's.
